Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
Temperance is a personal assistant. To do its job, it needs to hold some of the most personal parts of your day: your calendar, your to-dos, and the notes you ask it to keep. We take that seriously. This policy explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
The short version: we collect what we need to run your assistant and nothing we don't. We don't sell your data. We don't use your personal content to train AI models. And you can see what we hold, export it, or ask us to delete it at any time.
Who we are
Temperance is built and operated by its founders, Arshawn Arbabi and William Dorman. We are the people responsible for your data and the ones who answer when you write to us.
If you have a question about your privacy, or you want to exercise any of the rights below, email us at hello@trytemperance.com and we will handle it ourselves.
What we collect
We collect the information Temperance needs to be your assistant. That falls into a few groups:
- Account details. Your email address and name, so you can sign in and we know who you are. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider.
- Your calendar. When you connect a calendar, we read and write events so the assistant can see your schedule and make changes you ask for.
- Your to-dos. The tasks you give the assistant, along with any times or reminders attached to them.
- Your vaults (second brain). The notes, contacts, trips, and other things you save, which we keep private to your account.
- Your conversations. The messages between you and the assistant, so it can carry out your requests and pick up where you left off.
- What it learns about you. A personal profile the assistant builds over time about how you like things done. You can read it and delete it.
- Payment details. If you subscribe, our payment processor handles your card. We never see or store your full card number.
- Basic technical data. Things like your device type and rough usage, so we can keep the app working and fix problems.
Why we use it
We only use your information to run the assistant and keep it working for you. Concretely, that means:
- To do what you ask, across your calendar, tasks, and vaults.
- To keep your account secure and let you sign in.
- To remember context so the assistant gets more useful over time.
- To take payment if you subscribe.
- To find and fix problems, and to keep the service reliable.
If you are in a region with privacy laws like the GDPR, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running the assistant you signed up for), our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working, your consent where we ask for it, and meeting our legal obligations.
How AI fits in
The assistant uses a large language model to understand your requests and act on them. To do that, the relevant parts of your message and the context it needs are sent to our AI provider to generate a response. That is the only reason your content goes there.
We do not use your personal content to train AI models, and our AI provider does not train its models on what we send through the assistant. Your calendar, tasks, notes, and conversations are there to serve you, not to build a model.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is open, so the assistant can do its job. When you delete something in the app, we remove it. When you delete your account, we delete your data, including your calendar connection, tasks, vaults, conversations, and profile.
We may keep a limited amount of information longer where the law requires it, for example basic billing records.
Your rights and choices
Your data is yours. You can:
- See what we hold about you.
- Export your data.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete specific items, or your whole account.
- Disconnect your calendar at any time.
- Read and clear what the assistant has learned about you.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR or the CCPA, including the right to object to certain processing or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To use any of these, just email us. We will not charge you or make it difficult.
How we keep it safe
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your calendar and notes the way we would want ours treated, and we limit who and what can touch them.
Children
Temperance is meant for adults. It is not designed for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, write to us and we will remove it.
Where your data is handled
We and our providers may process your data in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we use approved safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to protect your information when it moves across borders.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top and let you know, so you are never surprised by how your data is handled.
